Valley Veterinary Hospital of Helena is in search of a well-qualified, dedicated, personable, amenable, and self-motivated small animal practitioner with a sense of humor for a newly merged small animal (cat and dog) exclusive practice formed by two local busy practices. Position will require general practice skills in medicine and surgery but special interests are welcomed, i.e , in orthopedic surgery, acupuncture or alternative medicine. Good communication skills with staff and clients is a very important aspect of this job. Thorough documentation and record keeping necessary. Rotational emergency calls with other doctors is a requirement.  

Montana licensed individual preferred, however arrangements could be made for temporary licensed person until permanent license could be obtained. Experience is helpful, but we have associates to help mentor newer, driven graduates as our goal is for the success of the individual as well as the hospital, while providing the safest and highest quality of veterinary care in the region. You will get the experience! 

Several specialists and universities to refer are available, and we do use telemedicine routinely to help support rule outs and diagnoses. As a group, we relay heavily on diagnostics both in-house and from outside labs and specialists. We encourage more in depth diagnostics and research investigation when needed for the care of our patients. 

Production based salary with bonuses and benefits with long term employment and discussed on case-by-case basis. Buy-in or outright purchase will only be considered after some years of successful association, to be determined with the individual practioner and the 'fit; for all of us.

Full-time Mixed Animal Veterinarian - Miles City

There is an opening currently available for a full-time mixed animal veterinarian in Miles City, MT.  The practice is 50% food animal, 40% small animal and 10% equine.  Currently there are 3 full-time and one part-time veterinarians.  The part-time veterinarian is leaving this summer.

Our large animal practice is based on cow-calf production and includes three counties in eastern MT.  A clinic vehicle, Silencer chute, Ibex ultrasound, and Pulsator IV ejaculators are available for herd work.  The majority of individual animal assessments including obstetrical procedures are brought into the clinic.  The local salebarn is also served here, as are a number of smaller backgrounding lots (500-4000 head).

The small animal portion includes gas anesthesia, in-house CBC and chemistry units, digital radiography, ultrasonic scaler and Dentalaire cart for dental procedures.  We do soft tissue surgery and some basic orthopedic procedures including lateral suture repair for cruciate tears and also bone pinning and plating.  There is also a small amount of small animal boarding.

Equine services include routine and cryptorchid castrations, umbilical hernia repair, teeth floating, basic lameness exams and basic reproductive services.   Surgical colic cases are referred to Billings, which is about two hours away.

All areas of practice are active but open to expansion of services.  

Clinic hours are 9:00 am to 5:30 pm (closed over the noon hour) daily M-F and Saturday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.  On-call hours are currently split between three veterinarians, with the on-call vet working the Saturday hours.

Salary is negotiable.  Liability insurance paid.  Two weeks paid vacation.  State VMA dues, AVMA dues and one professional membership paid.  Also, the clinic will pay for CE registration fees and lodging for meetings.

Miles City is a community of approximately 8,500 people and is an economic and social hub of eastern MT.  There are plenty of local groups to be involved in, whether music, theater, athletics or western heritage.  Hunting and fishing opportunities are present here in Custer County.  For those who enjoy mountain activities such as skiing, hiking or fly fishing, the mountains of MT are about a three-hour drive.

Compensation is generous – full time veterinarians typically earn around 100K/year.  Guaranteed base or percentage of production whichever is greater calculated monthly with no negative accruals.

The hospitalist position includes a four-day work week and with generous compensation with production incentives (our full-time associates' average salary production exceeds $100,000 per year), a CE/licensing/dues/PLIT annual stipend, and an upbeat team-oriented working environment.  Experience is preferred, although motivated new graduates may be considered.
